Double Feature: Megalomania

This weekend, we present our Double Feature: Megalomania with Moving Up by Loghman Khaledi and I Want to be King by Mehdi Ganji.

The documentaries revolve around the challenges and joys of pursuing passions and achieving life goals. Khaledi looks at the struggles of a misunderstood man, surrounded by family and friends who say he must give up his love of literature and accept the reality around him. Ganji explores the life of a guesthouse owner in the outskirts of shiraz who is determined to expand his ecotourism business by building a tribe and ruling over it.

Shahriyar, a garbage collector, has a passion for literature and poetry. He writes imaginative stories to escape his dull, prosaic life in Kermanshah, a city in Iran’s Kurdistan region. But his wife, his family, his neighborhood and all the people around him constantly conspire to hold him back from “Moving Up”.

Abbas has a dream: a dream that one day, he will be the king of a tribe that will be revered by people around the world. The trouble is he has a very busy day job. After two German tourists stumbled into his hut in the nomadic outskirts of Shiraz and enjoyed the hospitality, he began an eco-tourism business that continues to thrive after a decade. So he must find a way to match his dream to his reality.
