June 19th is known as Juneteenth in the United States.

It’s a significant day because it commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

The holiday marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of those enslaved.

This was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln.

Today, Juneteenth is celebrated with events like parades, concerts, and educational activities
