It was written in the 10th century by #Ferdowsi and illustrated in the 16th century.
Ferdowsi compiled 50000 couplets over 30 years.
The illustrated artwork was a gift from Shah Tahmasb of Persia to Sultan Salim of Ottoman Empire. Part of it has found its way to several public and private collections ever since.
