A note from L.A.Controller Ron Galperin

Greetings All,

As the holiday season quickly approaches, many of us may finally gather in person with friends and family for the first time in nearly two years. I am so grateful for that opportunity. Let’s relish these gatherings while also remembering that far too many lack food, shelter, and basic necessities. That’s why I want to highlight resources that speak to the season of giving by meeting the need that continues to exist throughout Los Angeles. I also want to share with you a few events, in the hopes that I will be able to see and chat with you soon about the pressing issues facing Los Angeles County.

Upcoming Event: Fighting Antisemitism and Hate in LA

In recent years, we have seen an alarming uptick in hate crimes against Jewish people. Nearly 60 percent of the religious hate crimes reported in 2020 were committed against Jews, according to the FBI’s Hate Crimes Report. As a Jewish and elected leader, using my platform to educate on issues facing the local Jewish community has always been and will always be imperative for me. That’s why I have partnered with the Forward to co-host an online, community conversation about combating the increase in antisemitism and hate crimes. The discussion will be moderated by the Forward’s National Editor Rob Eshman and will feature local Jewish leaders from the Anti-Defamation League, Jewish World Watch, and Conscious Builders.

I hope to see you on Zoom on Tuesday, November 16, at 5 p.m. You can RSVP here.
