On August 13, 1999, for the very first time, the medium-wave radio frequencies in Southern California became home to the voices of songs and presenters speaking in Persian.

This was the birth of the first Persian-language radio station in U.S. history to use medium-wave radio to communicate with its audience.

Since that summer afternoon in 1999, more than two decades have passed, and today, supported by having the largest Persian-speaking audience across the United States, Radio Iran is considered the most important Persian-language media outlet for Iranians in America.
