If you or a loved one is enrolled in Medi-Cal, you may now be eligible for free in-home care services thanks to California’s CalAIM initiative. CalAIM (California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal) aims to improve care and outcomes through a whole-person approach—and one of its key components is the Community Supports program.
Locally owned and operated, Coast Care has partnered with Medi-Cal managed care plans to offer no-cost home care services to qualifying San Diego County residents of any age. This support is available to members insured through Community Health Group, Molina Healthcare, and Blue Shield Promise.
What Services Are Offered?
Coast Care provides two vital services under the Community Supports program:
1. Personal Care & Homemaker Services
Eligible members can receive up to 336 hours per calendar year of assistance, including:
• Bathing, dressing, and hygiene support
• Meal preparation and light housekeeping
• Medication reminders and safety checks
• Companionship, recreational activities and more
This benefit is available to members who are:
• Applying for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), or
• Already receiving IHSS but need additional support hours
2. Respite Care Services
Caregivers of Medi-Cal members can also receive support. Respite care provides temporary relief to help caregivers rest and avoid burnout. Importantly, the Medi-Cal member does not need to have IHSS to qualify for this benefit.
Family Members and Friends Can Be Paid Caregivers
One of the most unique features of this program is that family members or close friends can be hired and paid to provide care. This creates a supportive solution for families while ensuring the member receives care from someone they trust.
