Are you applying to any UC Schools? Time to get the ball rolling.
As of August 1st, 2023, the UC applications are open! Applications are due no later than November 30th, 2023.
Short Tips to Keep in Mind:
- What are the personal insight questions? The UC application is different from many other schools. Instead of writing a long personal statement, you’ll be given 8 short answer questions to choose from, of which you pick your top four to answer.
- How short is my response? Your response to each question is limited to 350 words max, which is shorter than the length of this article. This is not the time to tell a long-winded story about your life. Everything you share should be thoughtfully written out to highlight your experience, skills, and abilities.
- How do I choose which questions to answer? You may find that some of the questions call to you more than others. For example, as someone with substantial leadership experience, it would be wise to choose that as one of the questions to answer. For those who hold more artistic interests, they may naturally choose to share their creative pursuits. Take the time to brainstorm each one and write out potential ideas. Don’t be too quick to shut any one question down.
- Can you give an example of the best way to ensure my experience and skills shine through?
“I was club president and learned a lot through my experience.”
This is not an effective statement. You are only communicating your position without telling me what you learned and why your role was significant.
Compare this with:
“ As president of my school’s Cultural Awareness Club, I was able to increase our membership through effective outreach, create close relationships with other club leaders, and plan memorable events that increased cultural awareness and unity at our high school.”
This is much more effective. Not only do I gain a greater understanding of your role, but I have a deeper sense as the reader of your leadership skills and what you were able to accomplish.

Who am I? I am an attorney with a passion for helping students get into their dream school. My goal is to get you results by enhancing the writing portion of your application.
Who do I work with ? I work directly with high school students, transfer students, and prospective graduate school students to ensure that your writing is the best reflection of who you are and what you can bring to the table. I especially love working with students who are motivated and excited to take the next step in their life.
