Centering on the life of Simin Behbahani, Our Brave Mama follows the life and artistic career of this well-known poet in the wake of tremendous changes in politics, society, and culture in Iran. The film features interviews with Behbahani and archival photographs of her life to help paint a picture of this influential poet and activist. The climax of the documentary comes when Behbahani is shown reading her poetry aloud. Farmanara uses the kind of intimacy associated with the documentary style to shape an image of a woman who is affectionately referred to as the “Lioness of Iran.
