Double Spotlight Special

From this weekend, we are featuring a double spotlight special on the films of Rakhshan Banietemad and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb.

Their mutual collaboration, Touran Khanom, centres on the life and career of Touran Mirhadi, the pioneering educator and legendary architect of childhood institutions in Iran. As a founder of Farhad School, the Children’s Book Council, and the Encyclopedia for Young People, Mirhadi was ambitious, compassionate, and full of life. This worthwhile documentary paints a vivid and lasting picture of a woman who never abandoned her vision. Banietemad and Mirtahmasb draw upon the most subtle aspects of Touran Mirhadi’s life to flesh out her character and create an experience that is both moving and pleasant.

Mojtaba Mirtahmasb started filmmaking in 1990, after admission to the University of Tehran where he received a BA in Handicrafts from the School of Art. He has conducted research, scriptwriting, directing and producing for nearly 40 documentary films including Six Centuries Six Years, This Is Not a Film, Lady of the Roses, Off Beat, Back Vocal, The River Still Has Fish and The Banner. (Read more)
