Docunight & ROSVAA (The Lady Luck Program)

In collaboration with ROSVÂA, this weekend we present part one of our Lady Luck Program on Docunight, featuring two films : Divorce Iranian Style and The Broker.

The films in this program explore lived experiences of marriage and divorce and the joys, heartbreaks and complexities that surround them.

Part two, also featuring two films, is scheduled to be released on July 30th.

Divorce Iranian Style goes behind-the-scenes at a divorce court in Tehran, following three couples as they try to resolve their conflicts. Like a real-life forerunner to Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar-winner A Separation, the film offers an intimate and nuanced look at marital strife that is both all too familiar, and yet, also unique to its patriarchal culture.

The Broker explores the lives of marriage mediators in a matchmaking agency in Iran. The agency’s manager, Mrs. Sadri, and her female colleagues introduce people for marriage purposes, using a variety of traditional methods and techniques. At the same time, two women who work in the agency are single themselves.
