Grand Performances presents
Join us Wednesday at 6pm PT for a special
live performance and workshop by AZIN MAFI
Grand Performances (GP) collaborates with writer and activist Azin Mafi for the latest occurrence in its artist TAKEOVER series. Dedicated to poetry, prose, and storytelling, Mafi will lead a performance and a writing workshop centered around her book club on GP’s Facebook and Instagram Live. A refugee with the belief that all art should strive to be a form of resistance, Mafi’s recitation set will provide powerful and intriguing insight regarding the indefinite state of the nation.
Iranian-born poetess Azin Mafi expresses her truth as a child of diaspora through political pieces rooted in both Western and Eastern worlds. A graduate from the University of Utah with a BA in Philosophy, she finds inspiration in the revolutionary radical female energy of modernist bard Forough Farrokhzad and the timeless wisdom of Hafez. Mafi regularly performs work centered on themes of social justice, identity, and rebellion at various venues throughout her current home of Los Angeles. She has contributed her writing and spoken word skills to the short film “Freedom Bound” produced by Amalgamation Pictures and the Humanity Lab for the Global People’s Summit in 2018 and is set to release a forthcoming book of poetry.
