Los Angeles English is a volunteer-run program with the goal to help others learn the English language.

This free program is supported by local members and missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church has missionaries from all around the world who travel to Los Angeles and serve for two years teaching others about Jesus Christ. One of the many teachings of Jesus Christ is to serve others, which is why we created the Los Angeles English program.

Our English classes are held in multiple locations and are different from other free and paid classes people can find online. We teach foreign speakers using everyday conversational English rather than textbooks. By studying English pronunciation, listening, reading, and speaking within a wide variety of subjects, our hope is that you will not only gain a greater ability to express yourself in the English language but also learn more about yourself, the world around you, and American culture.

Besides the unique curriculum focused on English pronunciation, we target three key areas:

• Conversation: We help each student develop the ability to carry on a conversation in English.
• Culture: Our missionaries come from many different countries and we discuss American culture throughout our lessons.
• Confidence: Learning a foreign language is hard. We create an environment where everyone can learn without fear or embarrassment!

We offer multiple classes throughout the Greater Los Angeles area, and hope you can find what you are looking for in the various English classes available in the volunteer program. We know that when you come, you will have an opportunity to improve your English, meet new friends, serve others, and of course have fun.
