Music legend Tina Turner has died at the age of 83, following a private health battle.

The Nutbush singer’s publicist confirmed the news in a statement, which read: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.

“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.’”

Her statement said her cause of death was after a “long illness”, but the rep later confirmed to the Daily Mail the rock icon had died of natural causes.

Turner suffered a number of health issues in recent years, including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure.

She was born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee, close to the town of Nutbush, and first rose to fame alongside husband Ike Turner in the 1960s with hits including Proud Mary and River Deep, Mountain High.

In 1978, Turner divorced her abusive partner and went on to find even greater success as a solo artist in the 1980s.

Throughout her glittering career, the music icon won 12 Grammy Awards, sold 100 million records and was inducted in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2021.

At the time, it was noted that she had “expanded the once-limited idea of how a Black woman could conquer a stage and be both a powerhouse and a multidimensional being”.

She’d previously been inducted alongside Ike Turner in 1991.

Turner is survived by her husband, Erwin Bach, and two of her four sons, having lost the other two prior to her death.
