Docunight presents: “Tell Spring Not to Come This Year”

Tell Spring Not to Come This Year follows one unit of the Afghan National Army (ANA) over the course of their first year of fighting in Helmand without NATO support to finally tell the story of the war from their perspective. The only feature documentary filmed entirely embedded with the ANA, it is an intimate and humanist film, told from a largely unheard and misrepresented perspective, that gives viewers a unique perspective on the legacy of NATO’s war, and the future of the country. Without a foreign soldier in sight, and no narrative but their own, this is the war in Afghanistan, through the eyes of the Afghans who live it. The film premiered at Berlinale 2015 where it was awarded the Amnesty International Human Rights Film award and the Audience Choice Award. Tell Spring Not to Come This Year is the third cinematic documentary from Saeed Taji Farouky, an award-winning documentary filmmaker and cinematographer specialising in humanist, conflict-based films for over ten years. Co-director Michael McEvoy served for 9 months in Helmand where he was employed as a Dari and Pashto-speaking Liaison Officer to the Afghan Army. He was presented with the Lee Platt’s Human Intelligence award as well as a Joint Commander’s Commendation for his work in Afghanistan improving relations between Afghan and British forces. UK theatrical release by Soda Pictures on 13 November 2015 Running time: 85min / Certificate: 15 For further press information please contact Olivia Jarvis at Soda Pictures olivia@sodapictures.com / 0207 377 1407

This documentary carries urgency and power in each shot,
and above all it is an intelligent, original, intricate, and well-directed film.

The mood of the soundtrack perfectly matches the cinematic melancholy and romanticism.

The documentary’s intentional slowness causes the pace to slink sensuously
and creates a feeling of deep dolor that may be felt throughout the entire film.

Tell Spring Not to Come This Year is part of Docnight’s ongoing Afghanistan collection.
