GRATITUDE TO WORKERS OF THE WORLD

GRATITUDE TO WORKERS OF THE WORLD

In 1889 leaders of the Second International met in Paris and declared May 1st as the Workers’ Day.

They demanded 8-hours working days, end to inhumane working conditions and higher wages, and succeeded in securing such rights through blood and sweat.
So, May Day is not simply another day to celebrate, but rather a day to reflect upon sacrifices that workers throughout the world have made, and sufferings endured to make working conditions more equitable.
We must remember many been killed for demanding 8-hours workdays, and many brutalized by the state and hired thugs, before having child laboring outlawed and women’s rights to work secured.
Yet, the battle for better working conditions, higher pays, shorter working hours, paid-leave for emergencies and maternity, health coverage, unions, and in all, the right to dignity trolls on for millions of laborer brothers and sisters throughout the world.
