Within the Walls: A Temporal and Spatial Overview of the Lives of Female Singers in Iran

 

 

 

Sepideh Raissadat provides an overview of a number of iconic female vocalists in Iran and discussing the role of women in current practices of music-making, highlighting the spaces that women use to present their music.

Sepideh Raissadat Sepideh Raissadat is an Iranian singer based in Germany. She began studying the vocal radīf (the repertoire of the Persian classical music) at the age of nine with the famous Persian singer Parisā and continued with Parviz Meshkātian and Mohammad Rezā Lotfī. She has vast experience in performing in North America, Europe, and the Middle East, and has recorded numerous albums to date. After she finished her B.A. in painting, she moved to Italy to pursue her artistic education. She graduated in musicology from the University of Bologna. She is currently finishing her dissertation in ethnomusicology at the University of Toronto.
