About Nasrin Soutoudeh

Nasrin (2020)

Since becoming a lawyer in 2003, Nasrin Sotoudeh has been a tireless advocate for the rights of women, children, LGBTQ prisoners, religious minorities, journalists, artists and those facing the death penalty in Iran. Her work to advance women’s and human rights has earned her acclaim internationally and fierce, government opposition at home. Secretly filmed in Iran by women and men who risked arrest to make it and narrated by Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Nasrin gives us an intimate, inspiring portrait of Sotoudeh, her passion and her resilience, in the period leading up to her arrest in 2018 and its still unfolding aftermath.

SCREENINGS

As far as film festivals are concerned, our next stop is Denver Film Festival, starting October 23. Followed by the Amnesty International Human Rights Film Festival, November 7 and 8, and DOCNYC, which begins November 11.

At all these events, there will be special screenings with participation by filmmakers Jeff Kaufman and Marcia Ross.

This month and the next are also chock-a-block with other screenings, organized with universities and human rights organizations. At all of these events, special emphasis is placed on discussion after viewing the film, and helping to raise further awareness about Nasrin Sotoudeh’s work and her current situation at Evin prison, in Tehran.

For more information about these screenings and how you can attend, please visit our Events page.
