Last year, LAFC earned one win and one draw in regular season play against Houston – tying 2-2 at BBVA Stadium on July 3 before downing the Dynamo 4-2 on October 12 in Los Angeles. The two sides also met in the Semifinals of the 2018 U.S. Open Cup, with LAFC falling 7-6 in penalties after playing to a 3-3 draw.
